St. Philip Neri was born in Florence in 1515, moved to Rome as a young man, and did not leave Rome for the remainder of his life. He was ordained a priest in 1551, devoting himself to hearing confessions and caring for the spiritual and corporal needs of the vulnerable. He founded the Congregation of the Oratory in 1575, and was known as the Apostle of Rome, only after St. Peter and St. Paul. St. Philip died on May 26, 1595, and was canonized in 1622.
St. Thomas Apostle Catholic Church has been entrusted to the Fathers of the Oratory of St. Philip Neri
