STA attends Papal Mass April 17th: Over 40,000 Catholics descended upon Nationals Stadium for a mass celebrated by his Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI. Among these thousands was a delegation from St. Thomas the Apostle Parish. With seats on the upper deck near the third base line St. Thomas parishioners were able to participate at this historic Mass. Parishoners were able to listen to musical selections before the Mass, cheered as the Pope entered the stadium, and participate in the Mass. Parishioners listened to the Holy Father's Homily where he talked about the role of hope in American History, and the role of hope in the future of the church. The Mass attendees left with a renewed commitment to living the Gospel Message. Photos from the event can be seen on the video slide show at the front page.
After the Mass members of the Parish went to Banana Cafe for lunch and to talk about what they took away from the experience.

"It is possible to feel Christ's presence tangibly in the brethren who are hungry and in those who offer them food. Here, one can experience that when we love our neighbor, we become better acquainted with God" Pope Benedict XVI
On Good Shepherd Sunday (April 12-13th) , St. Thomas the Apostle joined parishioners from throughout the Archdiocese of Washington in a food drive as a visible sign of our faith as we prepared to welcome Pope Benedict XVI, the Shepherd of the Universal Church. Over three large shipment oxes were given to the food pantries.
St. Thomas hosts Easter Mission 2008!
After Easter the Acts of The Apostles tells us that the apostles preached the Gospel Message in and around the streets of Jerusalem. People who had heard the apostles preached became filled with faith.
Two thousand years later that tradition continues. This year St. Thomas the Apostle parish held a Parish Mission where we were able to hear the Gospel Message. At the invitation of Fr. McKee, our Pastor, Father Jim Greenfield and Father Kevin Nadolski of The Oblates of St. Francis de Sales came to share the gospel message. For three nights - March 31st, April 1st and April 2nd- just about fifty STA parishioners heard both the Gospel and reflections based on the Gospel. Each night helped attendees better focus on the role of God in their life, and how to better live the Gospel Message. The Parishioners of St. Thomas were very pleased with the mission and express their sincere appreciation to the Frs. Greenfield and Nadolski for coming to our Parish.
St. Thomas Celebrates Easter 2008!
St. Thomas the Apostle began the Easter Tridium with a bilingual Mass of our Lords Supper on Thursday March 20th. Members of the different communities came together as a parish to hear about how Jesus and his Apostles celebrated the Passover Seder and the events that lead up to his betrayal. Fr. Bill Dailey, CSC, a priest in residence delivered the Homily where he talked about the Eucharist and its central role to the Catholic Community (and Lord of the Rings!). Afterwards 12 members of St. Thomas Apostle had their feet washed in a tradition that dates back almost 2 millennia. At the conclusion of communion adoration of the Blessed Sacrament occurred.
On Good Friday Stations of the Cross was observed in the afternoon. At night Fr. John Kartje, a priest in residence, conducted a good Friday service that allowed members of the community to revere the cross.
On Holy Saturday the Easter Vigil was celebrated. This night brought the 72 hours of the Easter Triduum to a close. Members of the Parish heard how God saved his people from the Old Testament, to the salvation obtained for us by Jesus Christ on the Cross. The Parish also welcomed several new members into the Catholic Faith.
